Date: 1969 Notes: This bookplate is printed in black ink in an art deco style with Broadway font (c. 1928) for the owner's name. It shows a man in formal wear reading a book. ; Bookplate Type : Pictorial ; Bookplate Function : OwnershipThis bookplate design was sold by the Antioch Bookplate Company in the 1930s and once in the 1950s, according to Rebecca Eschliman, a former employee of the Antioch Bookplate Company and member of the Yellow Springs Historical Society. The Antioch Bookplate Company offered a variety of designs which they would personalize for customers, and thus this same bookplate design can be found with a variety of owners' names added to the bottom. Unfortunately, although there were several well-known men by the name of Alfred Wiener living in both western Europe and the United States at the time that this bookplate was created, there is little evidence to connect any of them with the bookplate owner, Alfred B. Wiener. ; Personal Source: Original Format: University of British Columbia. Library. Rare Books and Special Collections.
