CP9012 Century Patterns Multi-Sized “Nancy” Edwardian Petticoat Pattern c1905-09. Waist 22 to 40 inches, hips 32 to 50 inches. A frilly, lacy petticoat was the height of Edwardian fashion. It helped the dress to hold its shape and look its best, and it was also just very beautiful. Petticoats still evoke all the grace and charm of the past, even in a modern wardrobe. Century Patterns “Nancy” Edwardian Petticoat is taken from a 1907-1909 original and features a classic seven-gored skirt base with full ruffled flounce and hidden dust ruffle for maximum froth. The back can be finished with an inverted box pleat or a drawstring. The classic triangular silhouette is perfect for supporting the fuller skirts fashionable from 1905 to 1908 but was advertised in magazines as late as 1909. It also works for the late Victorian 1890s and looks well under practical walking skirts or fancy gowns of both eras. The original pattern was of an even length, but there is plenty of fullness and flare in the back gores to accommodate a generous trained hem, if you want to add it yourself. Make it in crisp silk or classic filmy white cotton and add lace, tucks and embroidery to your heart’s content. Complete instructions are given for hand-sewing and machine sewing an authentic Edwardian reproduction, as well as period heirloom sewing techniques for attaching lace in the illustrated booklet that accompanies the paper pattern. The 28 page booklet also contains historical notes on Edwardian underwear in general and petticoats in particular. Century Patterns are copied from rare, antique originals, adjusted to standard modern pattern proportions and graded from Misses’ size 6 to 26 (Bust 30, Waist 22, Hips 32 inches to Bust 48, Waist 40, Hips 50 inches). Care is taken to retain as much of the period fit and silhouette as possible. Each pattern is accompanied by a booklet of information packed with instructions and notes. Extensive historical notes set the scene for the fashions of the period and put each garment into context. Detailed step-by-step instructions are well-researched and full of authentic construction tips. Both are copiously illustrated with period engravings and charming technical drawings. The booklets are a sheer joy to read and we think are worth the money alone. Patterns are not returnable, so please bear that in mind before purchasing. There is an additional tracking option at checkout for international and domestic customers.
