Looking to build fluency with your students that is aligned to the science of reading? In this oral reading fluency practice activity, students will practice decoding words with short i (CVC, CCVC, CVCC, CCVCC) and tricky "heart" words. This activity allows students to practice decoding short a CVC words, as well as words with initial and final blends. Students will then practice building their fluency with the repetition and repeated reading provided in the pyramid sentences. In a pyramid sentence, students start with the first word/words, and then work their way down until they have read the complete sentence. This oral repeated reading allows students to solidify and commit words to memory in a way that will progress into fluid and fluent reading. A digital version is provided through Google Slides, where students will click through and read the slides with the pyramid sentences.
