Kids LOVE games! Students are engaged and this fun game gets them reading and performing simple mi-sol-la melodies over and over without complaint. Students use the solfege pitches of ‘Mi’, ‘Sol’ and ‘La’ as well as the corresponding Curwen hand signs throughout the game. Mi-Sol-La Musical Laundry Game is a level above Mi-Sol Musical Laundry Game as it adds the pitch ‘La’ to the game with new melodies using the 3 pitches. In Mi-Sol-La Musical Laundry, each player places their laundry basket in front of them. The first player pulls a card out of the washing machine and shows it to the other players. The player sings/says/hums the melody (bubbles) on the card using ‘Mi’, ‘Sol’ and ‘La’. If the player gets the notes correct, they keep the card. If incorrect, they put the card back in the washing machine and mix up the cards again. The next player has their turn. The game ends when the washing machine is empty. The player with the most cards wins. Included are 3 other types of cards such as free card, put all cards back in the washer and win another player’s card. As well, there is a 2nd playing option which includes a song to add to the play. 4-6 players is optional for the game. Prior to playing the game, students should be able to easily play/sing rhythms with Ta and Ti-ti notation and have an understanding of the pitches ‘Mi’, ‘Sol’ and ‘La’. “ Grade 1 Music Unit – Part 4 – Learning About Pitch and Melody” is a great way to teach pitch and melody in a fun way to young musicians.
