Different colors Different sizes Clipart choices Directions Directions: Implementing flexible seating is a great way to give students choice in the classroom, however students still need expectations and boundaries in the classroom. There are times when I need students to sit in their desks or meet with me on the carpet. This is a time where I implement ‘closed seating.’ When students are working independently, they are allowed to pick a place around the classroom to complete their work; this is called ‘open seating.’ I communicate this to students throughout the day by hanging a sign in the front of my classroom and turn it to the appropriate side: closed or open. I like to laminate these signs to increase durability before I hole punch the top of the signs and hang them with string. You can also attach magnets to the signs and display them that way.
