There are 1.8 billion menstruators in the world! Learning about the menstrual cycle helps people make safe and healthy choices and develop empathy. Let's normalize talking about periods. This is an inclusive and non-intimidating way to introduce information about menstruation, reproductive anatomy of those with a uterus, period products, reproduction, period poverty, and being an ally to menstruators. This resource includes a three page informative handout, a four page worksheet, and an answer key. Simply print enough copies for your students, have them work independently on the worksheets, and then review the answers using the answer key. I highly recommend having period product samples to show your class. In British Columbia, period products (usually tampons and pads) have to be available in schools. Many companies will be happy to send educators samples, so reach out to period underwear companies, menstrual cup companies, and organic option pads and tampons. As a certified sexual health educator, I understand the importance of scientific, age-appropriate, and inclusive sexual health education. In British Columbia, physical changes that occur during puberty is a learning standard beginning in grade 4, and understanding the reproductive system is a learning standard in grade 6.
