Hebben jullie wel eens van een hooimadam gehoord? Het werkt volgens hetzelfde principe als een hooikist: je brengt 'iets' aan de kook, zet het in de hooikist en het blijft warm en gaart na. Nu is een hooikist doorgaans nogal een sta in de weg. Dus is er nu een moderner versie: de hooimadam! Maar ja, als je Lydia heet, dan koop je natuurlijk niet zo'n ding... ... dan maak je hem zelf! En dat deed ik, inmiddels al weer zo'n twee jaar geleden. Met een paar lapjes uit de voorraad, een paar meter biaisband in een bijpassende kleur en een oud dekbed voor de vulling kwam ik een heel eind. Natuurlijk kun je ook een oude wollen deken, of een stuk wattine gebruiken. Leg een dubbel stuk dekbed tussen twee lagen stof. Om verschuiven te voorkomen kun je hem langs de rand even vastzetten, maar dit is niet noodzakelijk. Teken een mal voor de bodem. Ik nam de allergrootste pannendeksel uit mijn collectie hiervoor. Op de stof vastspelden en er ruim omheen naaien. Daarna uitknippen rond de genaaide cirkel. Meet de diameter van de cirkel op en vermenigvuldig dit met 'pi' (3,14). Nu weet je de omtrek van de cirkel. Knip twee lappen stof uit die iets langer zijn als de uitgerekende omtrek van de cirkel. De hoogte kun je zelf bepalen, die van mij is ong. 50 cm. Er tussen weer een dubbele laag van het dekbed. Naai de zijkanten en de bovenkanten dicht met een stuk biaisband. Sluit de zijkanten een klein stukje over elkaar heen en naai tot ongeveer halverwege vanaf de onderkant aan elkaar. Zet nu de zijkant en de bodem aan elkaar. Vanwege de dikke lagen is dit echt een prutswerk! Maar goed, het is toch gelukt! Aan de buitenkant maakte ik nog een paar lusjes. En ik naaide een lang stuk biaisband dubbel. Rijg deze door de lusjes. Hiermee kun je je hooimadam dichtknopen.
