We sometimes call this family tree the Jesse Tree, named after
What comes to mind when you hear the name Bathsheba? What words? What pictures? What labels? Today we’re looking at the fourth woman named in Jesus’ family tree – Bathsheba. Why does the Bible name Bathsheba in Jesus’ lineage? Let’s do two things as we answer this question. First, while we most often read the narrative from David’s perspective (David’s sin, David’s confrontation by Nathan, David’s repentance and David’s punishment), let’s uniquely read it through the eyes of Bathsheba. Second, let’s wipe clean all we think we know of Bathsheba. Hollywood’s epic film of David and Bathsheba paints her as

The world breaks, families fracture, bodies suffer, hearts shatter. It’s all around us and it doesn’t stop at Christmas. Shootings. Diagnoses. Miscarriage. Abandonment. Job loss. And yet God doesn’t stay far off, distant from our pain. He enters it with us. The wonder of Christmas is that Jesus left heaven to enter this fractured and hurting world. The spectacle of Christmas is that the fractured and hurting is right there in Jesus’ family tree. When we turn the last pages of Malachi, through the silent centuries and to the first pages of the New Testament, it starts with Matthew and

DIGITAL DOWNLOAD//PRINTABLE: 40 NAMES / ATTRIBUTES OF GOD LENT / EASTER COUNTDOWN PAPER CHAIN + DEVOTIONAL CARDS Countdown to Easter as a family and spend the season of Lent walking through the big-picture, meta-narrative of the Bible and the gospel story by meditating on 40 names / attributes of God. This digital download has everything you need to start a meaningful Lenten tradition, creating a daily rhythm of reflection and anticipation during the 40 days of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending with Holy Week and Easter. The paper chain acts as a powerful visual reminder for children, and the prayer and Scripture cards offer meaningful devotional content adaptable to a wide range of ages. On each day leading up to Easter, remove a link from the paper chain and read through the corresponding devotional card together. Each card leads your family to discover a name or attribute of God—20 from the Old Testament and 20 from the New Testament—supported by a specific Bible verse. A “Read More” section offers an opportunity to go deeper with a longer story from Scripture that demonstrates the character of God on that card. Beginning at Creation, walking through the Old Testament, and ending with Jesus‘ ministry, death, and resurrection, these 40 stories walk through the broad gospel narrative as demonstrated throughout the larger story of the Bible. Families could either read these longer passages together or paraphrase them depending on the age of kids and time available. Finally, each card ends with a short and simple prayer. In addition to the 40 devotional cards and paper chain, your digital download also includes a printable calendar outlining the dates for Lent 2024, so you won’t get lost and if you do happen to miss a day or two it’s easy to jump back in. I was reading in the Bible where it lists the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:1-16 & Luke 3:23-38). I thought how great would it be for the Christmas Ideas Jesus' Family Tree: Matthew 1:1-16 & Luke 3:23-38 Genealogy
Some children have big playrooms and soft beds and Pinterest-themed birthday parties. Others sleep on the bathroom floor. Christmas comes and there’s no tree or toys. School starts and the shoes on their feet are second-hand and pinch their feet. Dad left the scene or there’s fighting all the time. If the latter was your experience, […]
We all have a secret box hidden somewhere. Under the bed, inside a tree hole, or between two thoughts. Some hide it so high, so they can't reach it
Huge list of FREE (and not free, but worth it!) Advent devotionals and resources to share with your children this Christmas season!
Are you struggling to find simple ways to make the Christmas season meaningful? There are so many great ideas out there, it is easy to get overwhelmed! I often struggle with knowing what to include
God's Family Tree. We are adopted, grafted, into the family of the King of kings. We are children of God. This station is a place kids come to reflect over who they are in Christ. The world may label you many things. But who does GOD say you are? The instructions are to simply take a label and ask God which words of identity He is speaking over them. Write them on the label and hang it on God's Family Tree. Remember who you are! Remember WHOSE you are! And now for those of you who are interested in how this station was put together... The tree is actually from a manzanita branch that a friend picked up from her family's home in the mountains not too far away. You can buy them here however. We simply "planted" it in a painted terra cotta pot. ... With rocks in the bottom for weight and to steady the branch.... My 10 year old son helped with this. Then we sprayed that foaming gap filler stuff from the hardware store into the pot. Be sure to purchase the Big Gap Filler (1" +). It's great stuff. It sprays right in and dries firm. We let it dry (and expand) over night. Then cut out and shaped it. And then using a glue gun and Dollar Store fake moss, covered the top with green and brown moss. For the labels, we purchased some here. But once they got here I realized I could make them for much cheaper. So I just drew the outline of a gift tag onto brown card stock and found I can get 10 per page. So, with a little time and effort, you can make each label for less than 3 cents! Punch a hole at the top, and string a piece of thread for hanging.

I see them on Facebook, meet them in the words of their blogs, watch them in the middle of the grocery store, and even encounter them sitting in a pew at church. Their heart is breaking under the load they have to carry. They just found out their husband is involved in pornography. Their wife is having an affair with one of your friends. Their bills are larger than their paycheck. Their child is was caught shoplifting. Their baby died in an accident involving a drunk driver. Their daughter has an eating disorder. Their father is fighting cancer. Their grandson is in jail for a crime he didn't commit -- or one he did. Heartbreak -- we encounter it everyday. We walk beside it in the mall, drive beside it, worship with it, exercise beside it at the gym. What's our response to the souls whose heart beats cataclysmic grief? Do we have anything to give when the tapes of their head play a tune of failure over and over? What would it take to give new hope to those whose dreams lay in a puddle at their feet? We offer them our God. Our God who loves. See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God (1 John 3:1). Our God who gives rest. Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Our God who gives peace. The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace (Psalm 29:11). Our God who gives hope. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Our God who gives confidence. The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing (Zephaniah 3:17). Our God is the only answer to those devastated by the hard things life brings -- He promises to keep us from stumbling--by the grip of His right hand.
