Corday perfumery was established by Blanche Arvoy, nee Reneaux, a perfumer and cosmetician, at 15 rue de la Paix, Paris in 1924, one year after she opened the Jovoy perfumery which was located at 127 rue de Longchamp, Paris. Blance Antoinette Rose Reneaux was born on December 21st, 1892, at Montreuil Sur Mer, near Calis. She married an Englishman, Bertie Istvan Arvoy, and thus became Blanche Arvoy. In addition to Corday, she also established Jovoy, a fragrance house that sold a number of fine perfumes. Corday was launched in 1924. Corday began its U.S. operations in the 1940's. Tzigane .. the gipsy violin .. in 1949 became its great success. In the United States, T.C. Wheaton of Millville, New Jersey, was the major supplier of bottles. Wheaton had the capability of manufacturing both bottles and stoppers. Corday discontinued its U.S. operations in the 1960's. Corday was among the early 20th century perfumers that attracted new customers by launching sample collections. Sample tubes or miniature bottles were distributed, sometimes with matching souveniers such as bookmarks or illustrated cards. Others using this strategy included Guerlain, Bourjois, Colgate, Roger & Gallet, L.T. Piver, and Coty. Launched in 1937, Zigane or Tzigane is a classic chypre scent. It is advertised with the slogan "fill your heart with music." Tzigane means "Gypsy" in French. "Tzigane," Corday's new perfume, is inspired by the haunting gaiety of gipsy music." "Carnation predominates in Corday's Tzigane." "A touch of drama .. Tzigane by Corday. Women love drama .. here it is, in liquid form! Not the sort of fragrance she’ll wear every day, but the kind she’ll save for special occasions. An unforgettable scent connected in your mind somehow with antique jewels, mysterious candlelight, rustling satin. Comes in a poetic box shaped like a violin, covered in glowing rayon satin .." Top notes are Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Lavender, and Clary Sage Heart notes are Bulgarian Rose, Iris, Gardenia, Carnation, and Geranium Base notes are Patchouli, Oak Moss, Cedar, Sandalwood, Clove, Leather, Amber, Musk and Coumarin Presented in both Lalique cylindrical bottles made by Lalique, and also in Violin shaped bottles, starting in 1949, made up of clear glass and topped w/ground glass stoppers, withgold enamel serigraphy. MARION GODART Paris Collier Corne Rayée Grise et Noire Large Stylish gray and black necklace by Marion Godart Paris. It is made of graduated handshaped flat elements made of horn, dyed with black stripes and polished to give it a mysterious internal, almost mother of pearl like shine. Material is hard and very shiny. Elements are seperated by little black horn beads, necklace closes with resin covered screwcaps. Measures 19" long. Largest element measures 2 3/4" x 1 3/4" and is 1/4" thick. Old stock, never been worn. Matching bracelet and clip-on earrings also available in the shop. Because the horn is a natural material and both the form and striping pattern of the elements is not regular, every element is different from any other and no necklace really is the same. In places where the horn did not absorb much of the black paint, the horn comes back through the paint after polishing, this is due to the nature of the material, not a flaw. Please bear in mind that as the material is crafted by hand, sometimes there may be little bubbles or imperfections in color, in particular at the transitions. Marie-Christine PAVONE Broche Chat Décoré Géométric Bleu UNIQUES EXEMPLAIRES Wonderfully decorated cat brooch by Marie-Christine Pavone. The full bodied cat is cut by hand from galalith that is marbled to look like shiny natural stone inside and colored blue. The marbling gives the galalith an amazing mother of pearl like shine. After that the cat is fancyfully and meticulously handpainted with squiggly lines and geometric patterns in a number of well matched colors, Marie-Christine can do so well. . Brooch measures 2 5/8" without the tail and x 1 1/2" high. Galalith is 1/4" thick. Signed by hand at the back. Excellent unworn condition. Because Marie-Christine paints these decorated cats free hand and mind, these cats are all UNIQUE. The creative process of the UNIQUES EXEMPLAIRES takes extra time, which is reflected in their value. The photos shown are of the actual item you are purchasing. Because Marie-Christine paints the nose, whiskers and eyes of the cats freehand, each cat has its own face, no one looks the same. This way, as in real life, every cat is different with its own unique character. By some magic Marie-Christine's cats are not just a brooch, they feel like a new friend. Pavone jewels are fancy brooches, earrings, bracelets and necklaces made in Paris with the help of ancient techniques of handcrafted galalith, bakelite and lucite. Galalith is the most used material in the creation of Pavone jewelry. Galalith is made from the casein of milk hence its name, "gala" (milk) and lithos (stone). Discovered at the end of the 19th century, it is the ancestor of plastics. The work of galalith is similar to woodworking for cutting and sanding but also requires different impregnating and polishing phases to give it a shiny and deep iridescent silky appearance. Galalith has the immense posibilities of being colored in an infinite palette of bright or soft hues, light or dark. Each item is entirely handmade and requires up to three weeks of work for its realization. The magic Marie-Christine puts into her galalith items, the liveliness it brings is her trademark, they cannot be mistaken. The creation of Pavone jewels began more than twenty years ago, trends and styles mixing old and new. Each item is signed and has a name; it is a unique and rare jewel, that can bring a very personal and original touch to your outfit. Please treat your jewelry with care and do not drop it on hard surfaces. Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions and sunscreen as they may dull or damage the galalith and surface decoration. Please note that colors may not allways be captured right in a photograph and can appear very different on different screens. If you have any doubts or questions, please ask before ordering to avoid disappointment. Also bear in mind that handmade also means little imperfections may occur.
