Today I'm sharing a couple of little treat boxes I made with the new Scallop Tag Topper punch from the Occasions Catalogue. This punch is a must have, as you can make much more than tags. I've also shared my class instruction sheets for both projects, so you can make your own too. Scallop milk carton treat box First up, a simple milk carton-like box - an impromptu extra project made at my Feb Occasions Catalogue launch class. I'd decided to focus on 2 card projects at the class, however, on the morning of the class, I couldn't resist using the punch too so I quickly cut the pieces to make the box. I used the same colours & stamps as the hexagon hive card I shared yesterday. The box is essentially a basic open topped box (made in crisp cantaloupe) with 2 scored scallop tags attached to the front & back & a strip of 'I am me' dsp around it. It is approx 5 x 5 x 10cm (2 x 2 x 4 inches) & can be very easily dressed up or themed to suit any occasion. It would be a perfect size to hold a hollow egg or little bag of eggs for Easter, or even a non-chocolate gift. Might just do that...with chocolate of course :-) Click on the pic below or here to download both box instruction pdfs Tag Topper Thank you Treats I made these little chocolaty treats as a little customer thank you after the class to give my gals more ideas to try. This treat is even easier to make than the first - just a strip of card2, scored twice to form the bottom & sides, punch the tag topper, then add scored strip of Sweet Sorbet DSP around the box & a cute tag (from the Just Sayin' stamp set). I didn't glue the DSP to the tag base as it didn't need it...& I knew the recipients would want to deconstruct it anyway :-) Here they are, ready to go to their peeps. I just ADORE this new punch! I used it again to make the Ghirardelli treat holders in a workshop yesterday. I've been trying to work out a box with it, but I couldn't figure out the sides. A couple days ago I saw one on Pinterest that a German Demo did, she worked out the sides! Her blog is in German, no problem I thought, I'll just translate it to English. Well duh Carole, they use the metric system. Oh boy, 2.5 cm in an inch.... I hate math, it makes my head hurt. So I left it awhile, then later when I was catching up on the blogs I follow, I saw where a Australian Demo has converted those metric measurements into Imperial! Yipee! I used the photos on one blog and the measurements on the other to come up with some directions to share with you. I made two of them and took pictures as I worked on them. I just love purple and yellow, so I copied Niki Spencer's idea on that one. The other box is decorated in a way I came up with after looking at my ribbon collection. Perfect Plum box. Crushed Curry Flower Shop and Petite Petals punches, Pear Pizzazz Chevron Ribbon, Petal Parade stamped in Elegant Eggplant. Coastal Cabana cs, Strawberry Slush Ruffled Ribbon and ink for stamping Petite Petals stamp. Blender pens and Pink Pirouette to fill in petals, Crushed Curry centers. The script is En Francais stamped in Coastal Cabana. Cut 8 ¼” x 5 ½” Along the 8 ¼” side, score at 1 ¾, 2 ½, 5 ¾, 6 ½ Rotate cardstock and score at 1, 1 ¾, 3 ¾, 4 ½ Cut away portions as shown below. Snip a smidgen off the tabs to allow smoother closure on your box. Fold one side under to allow the box to fit into the Tag Topper Punch, and punch both ends. Stamp, sponge or decorate the box as you wish, then insert your choice of ribbon into the punched holes and tie in a bow or a double knot. Embellish with punched flowers or the Spiral Flower Die – whatever you like! Oh and here are a lovely set of directions for another type box using this cool punch. I want to make this one too!
After fiddling with measurements, I successfully designed a closing lid for the cute little Scalloped Tag Topper Punch box. I've changed out the sizing from the original box so that this one may fit on a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of cardstock. You can see that I've scored along the long side at 2", 4", 6", and 8". Along the short side I've scored at 1 1/2" and 3 1.2". If you go to my tutorial for the original Scalloped Tag Topper Punch box, you will see the lines I've put on the punch and why I've done so. Line up the 6" score line and the 8" score line with the lines on the punch as shown and punch out this section. Next, line up the 2" score line and the 4" score line with the lines on the punch as shown and punch out this section: Your cardstock should now look like this: Now all you have to do is to line up the ends of your punch cuts on your Stampin' Trimmer as shown: Trim the 1/2" wide strip from the top to the score line and from the bottom to the score line as shown. Next cut your score lines from the top to meet the scored line and from the bottom to meet the scored line. Then you will trim the bottom flaps of the sections that do not have the scalloped top to approximately 1/2". Next fold under the scalloped sections and line up your straight topped section on the Envelope Punch Board as shown. Make sure your paper lines up exactly as I have shown. Punch that section. Flip over your paper and line it up exactly as shown. Punch that section. Trim the little pointy ends as shown: Next, cut a piece of cardstock to 1 7/8" x 1 1/8". I've chosen to use black only because of the project I'm doing. This piece can be the same colour as the base cardstock if you wish. Its only purpose is to provide a slot into which the end formed by the Envelope Punch Board will fit. Put double sided Sticky Tape on each end as shown. Adhere to the unshaped straight flap as shown. Next, add all the Designer Paper and embellishments that please you. And close up your box. And this is my finished project. Enjoy making yours.
