In seafaring towns around New England and the Maritime provinces, you sometimes see and hear the motto "holdfast." In nautical terms, a holdfast is the root structure that holds aquatic plants to the sea floor. But it is also the ancient motto for the Scottish clan MacLeod, some of whom who survived the clans' uprising of the 18th century, and later emigrated to the US and Canada through the Maritimes. Holdfast means everything you can imagine to an immigrant: courage, strength, stubbornness, and also - hope. Stitch your own message of "holdfast" in this design inspired by Nova Scotia's ties to Scotland and the sea. This is a freshly polished antique family Clan Crest Pin (motto/Crest) for the Henderson family of Scotland. The brooch measures 1 inch in size with a fully functional rotating C clasp. I have very limited information about the origins of this piece except that it was completely tarnished when I received it. Family mottos were a common theme up until the early 1900's, especially in Scotland. The Henderson family members are believed to originate from Scotland from the early 1400's', the rest is yours to research. The silver setting has been tested to confirm sterling content. I'll ensure your order is fulfilled as requested. Visit my shop at: Newagainclassics.cs -Shipping times are taking longer due to the increase in online shopping-
