Pain below the glute at the top of the hamstring can be due to a few things but one possible culprit is proximal hamstring tendinopathy. This may come on as overuse specifically with doing too much too fast with activities that involve sprinting, lunging, hurdles, or hills. Static stretching with certain yoga/Pilates poses or compression to the area (sitting) might also contribute to discomfort here. As with other tendinopathies (Achilles patellar), monitoring training load and symptoms is key in resolving this.
