AC JOINT Pain: early/mid-stage rehab! The bony tip on top of the shoulder where the clavicle meats the acromion is called the AC joint. Pain at the top of the shoulder can feel hard to address. AC joint injuries (separations, sprains) are among the most common in contact sports (football) but also heavily in cycling or triathlons from a fall onto the shoulder with the arm adducted. Pain here can also come on without a fall too. This can be painful and while early immobilization can be useful, it’s a slippery slope if it’s kept there TOO long. 👉🏼Weakness in the muscles that help provide control to this joint can lead to a host of issues.
