I'm so sorry for the parade delay! I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Mine started out perfect... lots of ...

Another Shnibbles top completed! Loved this pattern, Morning Joe, by Carrie Nelson, Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. Simple and fun half square triangles that came together beautifully thanks to Carrie's simple instructions. They were made a bit larger and then each trimmed to make for near perfect squares. I also rolled the seams of the pinwheels to make for nice flat seams with less bulk. Fabrics used were two charm packs of Giggles by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda and a Kona white. The approximate size is 54" x 54". As much as I'd love to get this into my machine and do the quilting, November craziness has begun! I'm readying things for a trip to Georgia to visit my parents for Thanksgiving and a short trip to New Orleans to meet up with longtime friends from San Antonio, TX. I just don't want to get behind on some ongoing projects, like my City Sampler blocks, and I just couldn't resist joining Lori Holt's and FQS Quilty Fun Sew Along...and then my block of the month. Heehee...crazy fun! :-)) Signing off! Debbie

I finished making the November Schnibble “Morning Joe” top over a week ago. But I couldn’t find a backing for it from my stash that I really liked with it! But I finally found a soft grey tone on tone flannel that really looked just right! So, I quilted it Tuesday afternoon and finished binding it that night! I really love this simple design!! I used Moda’s In From the Cold collection by Kate Spain!! So, at least one new Christmas quilt just for us this year!! YAY!! Soooooooo? Did you have a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving? Are you exhausted by all the shopping, preparing, cooking, eating and cleaning up you did yesterday??? Yogi is much better already! Are you sewing today or shopping? Or decorating the house like me?
Oh happy day! I started a new project yesterday and that's the November Schnibbles...a pattern called "Morning Joe". Some of my best thinking is over that cup of morning coffee. This pattern is just making me happy! It's wonderful and pictures will be shown soon. I also made the first block of the Quilty Fun Sew Along ... and this is just gonna be a very fun project! It will be scrappy, using no specific collection of fabrics ... and will most likely be a fun "stash builder" project! :-) Wouldn't some Pam Kitty fabrics be an awesome addition?! In this past month, my 12 barns were sewn together, the backing prepared and off to the quilter its gone! I had some great input from my friends at the local quilt shop (Block Therapy). It was their suggestion that instead of a John Deere tractor that I make it a Debbie Miner tractor...and so it is! :-) More projects in progress: My City Sampler blocks! I'm up to block 64! That's 64 six inch blocks! I've finally gotten organized with my fabrics for these and its going a little faster...and its so much fun! (of course, everything I've been doing is just Fun!) Here are a few I've finished... My photos aren't that great and I see that one is upside down :-( Please forgive my newbie state with posting pictures. As this day began and progresses, I'll continue to be thinking about the fabrics and patterns that I want to use for a special quilt for my brother and sister-in-law. I've got her favorite colors in mind. And then, there's the pouches I want to make all my special girls and girlfriends for Christmas. I'll be using a Moda Bake Shop pattern and the mini-charms. My dogs are bugging me for breakfast...we are back up to four dogs now. Darling Steven brought home a rescue...and I love her! The chickens are probably ready to be let out too. Coffee is cold, sun is getting warmer...I'm off to a happy Friday! xoxo
I am a week late in getting the April BOM posted because I was at MQS in Wichita all last week teaching EQ7 classes. It was a great time, but a lot of work. I so enjoyed meeting so many students and colleagues, and of course shopping in the vendor mall! And the quilts! All I can say is WOW, they were really amazing and the quilting was over the top on so many of them. It was impressive. I just don't know how the judges manage to select a winner in each of those categories. Here are a few of my personal favorites. What can I say, I love morning Glories. Sorry the picture is so blurry. I was trying to fit it all in the view finder and wobbled. haha I awarded this simple blue and white quilt my "Teacher's Ribbon" because I thought that the quilting complemented the pattern beautifully. It was simple but elegant, and -- of course -- I can't resist a blue and white quilt! Still, the quilting on this sweet little quilt was amazing as you can see in the closeup. I just like lighthouses, and this was a particularly well done version of a light house quilt. Color, it just spoke to me. I have to tell you that the picture of the quilt looks really different from the quilt in person. Odd how that happens. This was a group quilt where they took a picture and cut it up into pieces and each person did one part, then they sewed all the parts together. I have to tell you it was amazing. This is downtown Bentonville, AR home of the first Walmart. This picture of the Victorian House was the best of show and it so deserved it. Done in 1/2" squares it was a reproduction of a cross stitch pattern! And the quilting was over the moon. It was stunning. Hope you enjoyed the eye candy and will click on over to my BOM page (see the tabs at the top of the page, and download this month's free block of the month. Thanks for stopping by.
Now we all want to save plastic, no question about that. The easiest way to do this, is to start in our own home. I don't even want to think about the amount of little bags or foil I used to...
Since the temperatures are falling here in the Northern hemisphere…how about some “Morning Joe” for our November Schnibbles quilt? Isn’t this a fun pattern? Carrie’s patterns are always so much fun! Finished! 51" x 61"
I should have had more of my morning joe before trying to finish this quilt! You see, there's still a little left to do. Today, at the last minute, I decided to change the border and make it scrappy. Seeing how much longer this was going to take me, I decided to post my pictures now so I could be sure to get it into the Schnibbles parade. I didn't want to rush and try to get it done, or be tempted to cut corners to get it finished on time. Especially because I love this quilt! I was going for low volume this time. I'm not sure if this exactly qualifies. Is it just a scrappy background? I'm not sure. I was continuing on my quest to try different kinds of backgrounds for my quilts, not just plain white or cream, my usual choices. I've made a few attempts at using a low volume background like this in the past and they didn't go well.......at all. This time I was a little more determined. Instead of just pulling from my stash, I went to the quilt shop with a low volume background in mind and I think it went much better. These are not the kind of prints that I would normally buy, but boy do I love them now! This won't be my last scrappy quilt using low volume fabrics. The cutting certainly took some extra time and planning, since I was using so many fabrics for the background, but it was worth it and I love the result! The variety of fabrics I used for the background really highlights the large number of pieces that are in this version of the quilt. Originally, I was going to use a single fabric for each side of the border of the quilt, but this morning when I had it on the floor like that, it just wasn't working for me. Scrappy was definitely the way to go. The single fabric for the border just stuck out with the rest of the background being so scrappy. So, I'll keep on sewing and show you the final result later, but it looks nice with out the borders too! A mix of Kate Spain's Terrain and Good Fortune lines are used in the blocks. I think I there are a few scraps from some of her other lines too. I can't choose a favorite fabric from the background! At first it was the fish, now I like the pins and the orange birds the best, or maybe the forks and spoons? It was just starting to get dark when I took these pictures. Maybe that's why some of the white fabrics look much more cream in the pictures than they do in real life. They are a little creamier, but not as much as it looks here. When I get the borders on, I'm planing on taking more pictures and hopefully I'll have better light. This is now one of my favorite quilts! I'll be sure to give you and update once the borders are on. The Parade of Schnibbles will be coming up in the next few days! Visit Sherri and Sinta too, to see different beautiful versions of Carrie's pattern Morning Joe. I love the seeing what everyone comes up with each month.
Who loves square fabric baskets as much as I do? Here is a step by step tutorial. Square fabric baskets are the best.
