Hi friends, Today I am so excited because I get to share a finished project with you all! We are throwing it way back to the very first pattern I published with Modern Handcraft - the Hexie Pillow. The Hexie Pillow has been around for a few years and is a pattern based off of my Modern Hexies technique. I wanted to have a way to offer a finished project for you that included some additional things like links to videos to help you out along the way. I love seeing how you all take the pattern instructions and really go for it - making table runners and even quilts! For today’s project I am using the Hexie pillows best friend…..the mini charm pack! Did you know that mini charm packs usually contain (42) 2.5” squares of fabric….and you guessed it - that’s enough, plus one extra that you need to complete a pillow! I had the opportunity to get my hands on some upcoming Ruby Star Society mini charms that Moda makes, and the first finished pillow we have is Starry - a fun fabric from Alexia Marcelle Abegg. Alexia’s new line Starry has a beautiful softly muted color story, almost in the rainbow spectrum. I love how all of the little hand drawn stars give a softer look to the fabric, no sharp points here. Starry should be shipping out to stores in November, so be sure to keep a look out for this fun new fabric! I went back and forth with my layout, I initially tried somewhat of a rainbow fade with the colors but after scrambling them up a bit I was really able to incorporate all 17 fabrics that are included in the line. I have it paired up with an “old jeans” hexagon quilt I made a few years ago. I love repurposing old jeans to make super durable quilts. Perfect for picnics and camping! Don’t you just love how well the softer pastel colors work out perfectly with the red, yellow and black colors. I wouldn’t think to put these colors together in a group but it just works. Added a quick zipper instead of the usual envelope backing that the pattern includes. I will make sure to do a full photo tutorial for you all soon on this method - it’s super fast and I promise you will not go back to your normal zipper installation ways! I love how the lighting really captures the texture on the hexies. If you want to sew one up yourself, click the link here for the Hexie Pillow! I also have my favorite EPP tools in my Amazon shop if you are looking for some quality hexagon templates, glue, or storage containers for your projects.
