This is an Oakum Boy, a King Penguin Chick. These guys are huge! They are called Oakum Boys because they are the color of the oakum used to caulk the decks of wooden ships. These Oakum Boys have ravenous appetites and never leave the adults alone. That is why they look so fat, they are! Their long feathers provide a bit of the fat look too. You talk about ugly when they shed but eventually they are regal looking like the King Penguin is supposed to be!
