The Split Rock Lighthouse is pretty amazing. It's perched on a sheer cliff that towers over Lake Superior on the North Shore just north of Duluth. It's stately, stout, and amazingly well maintained. In 1905, a single storm damaged almost 30 ships giving rise to lobbying efforts to add a lighthouse station at that specific location. Its construction was completed in 1907 at a cost of $75,000, and served until the light station was closed in 1969.
