Please excuse me for speaking on your behalf, but it seems we've ALL "fallen" for acorns this fall. They are so quintessentially autumn...reminding us of nature, with her changing leaves and little furry creatures collecting these nuts for winter. At our home, acorns have made their appearance with three styles all their own. So whether you like your acorns fashion-forward, as statement pieces or au naturel, we've got just the looks for you! ;) 1. Felted Wool Ball Acorns: These couldn't be easier to make! I simply attached real acorn tops to the felted wool balls with hot glue. We also made some of these in my Kindergartner's art docent class, that I teach, using Elmer's glue. We counted to twenty as we pressed the wool ball and acorn top with glue together. They stuck! I actually found felted wool balls to be a little hard to come by in the size and colors I wanted. I needed them to be about 20 mm to fit the acorn tops. I ended up buying the felted wool balls on eBay. Sixty in an assortment of brown, green and deep yellow for $16.99. If you're interested, you can find them here. 2. Oversized Pinecone Acorns: You might have seen these acorns in our fall home tour. I love their extra big, statement size! I purchased them at Michaels about a month ago. (They also came in green and orange.) 3. Natural Acorns: If you're blessed enough to live near oak trees, these acorns won't cost you a dime. They look so rustic and whimsical scattered about. I used to love finding acorns when I was young. A few weeks ago, I had the joy of taking one of our boys to the park to look for acorns. We parked our car in a gravel lot and, enjoying the sunshine, we walked down a little trail, over a small bridge and to some oak trees. While we were gathering acorns, the skies suddenly grew very dark and it started POURING! With acorns in-hand, we started running... over the bridge, down the trail and back to our car. We laughed our heads off! We looked like we had jumped in the shower with all our clothes on. Jokingly, I asked my son (as we were soaked to the bone), "Whose idea was THAT?!" I thought he would like to blame me since it was my idea that we stopped there. Instead he answered, "God's!" And you know what? I couldn't agree more. I had been a bit of a stress case that week, feverishly trying to check things off of my ever-important to-do list. It's as if God, through the unexpected downpour was saying, "Just stop. You can't control everything. Enjoy your son. Lighten up. I've got this." We chatted the whole way home, and looking into the rear-view mirror at my little buddy, I quietly prayed that we'd never forget this time together... I'm so glad you stopped by today! If you still can't get enough - and would like perhaps the best acorn DIY ever, you'll want to head here. I am telling you. This girl. Never ceases to amaze me!
