Cappadocia is a semi-arid region in central Turkey. It is famous for its characteristic fairy chimneys, large cone-shaped rock formations found in the Valley of the Monks, Göreme and elsewhere. Other notable sites include Bronze Age houses carved into the valley walls by troglodytes (cave dwellers), then used as shelters by early Christians.
