Zdzisław Beksiński was a master Polish Artist and painter working in the Surreal and Dark Art forms. Beksiński created in what he would often call either a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' style, though strains of a Dark Surrealism could be often seen. In his best-known period, Beksiński created dark images of an ominous post-apocalyptic world.

Beksiński undertook painting with a passion, working intensely and whilst listening to classical music. He soon became the leading figure in contemporary Polish art. In the late 1960s, Beksiński entered what he himself called his "fantastic period", which lasted up to the mid-1980s
