Here's a picture of some lovely (if I say so myself) Tunisian Entrelac Crochet I did: 'Entrelac' refers to the diamond-shaped stitch pattern which creates a sort of woven/quilted look. You can create entrelac fabric in all sorts of different ways - knitting, regular crochet, or (my current favourite entrelac method) Tunisian crochet. It works particularly well with a variegated yarn (as pictured above in Poems Sock Yarn) as the colour changes emphasise the pattern. The piece above measures about 10 inches square, and was supposed to be the back of a sweater for Jasper, but I started it last November and then it got pushed aside in the name of more pressing projects, and now, guess, what? Yep, of course - he's gone and grown again (no matter how many previous posts I've written on this subject, I still never learn!). So, I've been wracking my brain to come up with a way to repurpose this square as it's just so gorgeous, and this method of entrelac does not unpick well - you have to fasten off the yarn (i.e. cut it) at the end of each tier (you can see all the ends to the left of the photo above), so if you unravel it you will end up with lots of shortish lengths of yarn that are a bit of a pain to reuse. So, the only solution, really, is to work out another pattern that could incorporate a 10 inch square. This time, something for me, I think, as I am a bit more considerate about the whole issue of growing out of things before they are finished... Anyway, I think I may finally have come up with an idea that might just work. I will let you know how things progress...
