Bed post from the Gokstad Viking ship burial. A man in his forties was sent on his last jouney in a burial chamber aboard the Gokstad ship. He was a Viking chieftain who had lived a hard life. Around the year 900, he met a dramatic and violent death. His family gave him a fine burial with many grave gifts, including 12 horses. There were also pictures of stallions on the chieftain´s bed.
