Hello and welcome to my shop! My name is Jonathan Williams and I am the artist/builder of this unique lighting chandelier featured here before you. I have a true passion for creativity and all the ways it brings imagination into reality, it's a truly unique experience to bring to life and to market a product for customers seeking that true unique one of a kind look. I use a variety of different parts and techniques to ensure the whole design is consistent. It all begins with a wheel!! I start by taking an all wood wagon wheel that features 12 individual spokes, a 2 inch wide outer steel rim, and a hub with steel banding (All the wheels i use are a functional cannon style wagon wheel to ensure that true to era beefy look and feel). Starting with the wheel I begin by boring the holes for the heavy duty shoulder eye bolts that supply the point of attachment for the suspending chain (the chain i use is a heavy duty steel and has a black electroplated finish with a satin to matte sheen). After the holes are bored then i remove one side of the wheels hub for where my power distribution box will be located (the power distribution box is the junction for the wiring connections of each lamp and power supply cords). Next comes the prep sanding of all parts of the wheel followed by the staining/finishing process. I use a variety of different techniques throughout these processes to create the aged and distressed appearance of the wheel. In the solid color finish style I use a Jacobean color penetrating stain and on the antiqued finish style I use a white pigmented stain and then glaze over it with Jacobean stain glaze. Once the coloring of the wood parts has dried for a couple days I then begin applying a satin black enamel paint onto the metal parts of the wheel. On the solid color stained wheel I only paint black the outer steel rim (I allow the hub banding and inner rim clips to rust for a more natural look). On the antiqued style finished wheel I paint black the steel outer rim, the hubs steel banding, and the steel clips on the inner side of the wooden rim. After the enamel finish has cured for a few days I start back by using a combination of sandpaper and steel wools to distress and create a used/worn effect of all the painted steel parts on the wheel. I then suspend each wheel and apply a 2 coat urethane satin clear (sanding between coats) to the entire wheel ensuring I capture that aged/worn look and to protect all the finishes on the wood and metal parts of the wheel. While the clear coating is curing for several days I start to work on the other parts to fabricate and apply finish to. On the ceiling canopy (attaches to the electrical box in the ceiling) I bore my holes for the wiring to pass through, the shoulder eye bolts for suspending chain attachment, and the center for attachment to the ceilings electrical box. Once my holes are bored I remove any burrs or rough spots and then prep in solution for the paint finish. Once prepped I apply 3 coats of black satin enamel paint (steel wool between coats for smoothness) and after the paint has cured for a couple days i go back and lightly rub down with super fine steel wool for some very minor dulling and aging and then apply some hand rubbing effects. Also in this time I am applying the same black satin enamel paint to all the shoulder eye bolts and nuts used for suspending chain connections. Then I begin making the power distribution box. I use pvc materials to make this box (electrical requires metal or pvc housings). I cut the parts to size then place in special jigs for hole alignments for wiring, anchoring to wheel hub, and fastening lid closure. I bore out each hole and once the holes are all bored I snip out to make the channels then sand and smooth and apply the 3 coats of satin black paint finish on all the pvc parts. And finally comes the lids for the mason jars where I place each lid in the press and bore holes for the cord strain relief and the vent holes. I use a matte black heavy duty rustic/vintage style lid. Assembly Process!! I cut each wire to specific length, cutting back the vintage black cloth wire covering and tape (using black electrical tape to blend in with black cloth and black wire coating) the cloth to the wires jacketing ensuring it stays in place. I add on quick disconnects to the power supply cords(this makes hanging this light very easy as you can wire the light without the wheel attached, then hang the wheel and connect, simple). I then wire the lamp sockets and connect the lamp sockets to the lids with strain reliefs. Next comes attaching the wiring, I use a loop and knot method to tie each individual lamp to each spoke, staple in place the wiring using black staples and use fine pvc black wire ties to hold all wires in place on the spokes. I install the power distribution box on the wheels hub and begin snipping back and taping the cloth covering on each wire then pull in each wire and terminate in groups to the power supply cords. I use special connectors for terminations and then I apply a label on the lid that details the wattages and a warning of Do Not alter the wiring in any way! I also apply a tamper evident seal to make aware if this power distribution box has been opened/tampered with after it has left my posession. You may use any type E26/27 S14 style bulb(or equivalent) in incandescent or led so long as the wattage for each lamp socket does not exceed 25 watts. The S14 bulbs I use are 2 watt vintage LED 200 lumens each with a total of 31 lights. These bulbs are very easily and readily available from most all bulb makers, and come in many wattages if you desire more lumen output. I use 1qt Anchor Hocking Glass, fully smooth, flint toned glass jars for the lamp shades. Testing!! I test, retest, and test once more all the wiring, electrical connections, and bulbs. Packaging!! I build my packaging from birch plywood making a very strong box and fasten the lid with square drive screws. The interior packaging i use foam cushioning wrap, sealed bags, and desiccant. I put a lot into the packaging as well to give a authentic experience there as well as ensuring the safety and protection of the light itself. Shipping!! I ship UPS Ground. Depending on your location packages will arrive in 3 to 5 days once shipped. I can also do custom shipping for faster delivery if needed but you will have to contact me for a shipping quote (I will only offer free shipping on ground service shipping).. Size 36 inches diameter and hangs from ceiling to bottom of last lamp 44 inches. This chandelier is a lengthy process from start to finish and I devoted much time to its design ensuring you get a quality and reliable product for your home. I hope you will find this as breathtaking as i and others have when viewing this light. Pictures can truly never do it no real justice, its definitely a beautiful sight to view in person and in a home setting.
