Post-acute withdrawal syndrome or PAWS is a collection of psychological symptoms that can occur for months or years after the acute period of withdrawal from drugs or alcohol has ended. Post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS) happens as a result of chemical imbalances in the brain.
