I designed and knitted this shawl just for fun of creating a shawl that could look good both on the right and wrong sides. The pattern alternates knit and purl, which gives a different aspect on the wrong side and there are some who like the ‘reverse’ even more than the ‘front’. It is a sister shawl to Marduta, which is also a two-sided rectangular shawl, and both patterns can be purchased as an e-book. The pattern can be customized by using different yarns, needle sizes, or adding repeats to the pattern. Yarn – Any ranging from Lace to Sport. For the white shawl I used 500 yards/400m Yarn Art Cotton Soft (55% Cotton, 45% PAC, 100g = 656 yards / 600m) but it wasn’t a good choice, the yarn didn’t block well. For the grey one I used 200g / 668m / 732 yards of Garnstudio Drops BabyAlpaca Silk on US 4 / 3.5mm needles and with 99sts to obtain a shawl that measures 180 cm x 43 cm (70 inches x 17 inches) blocked. It was a very good choice and I love wearing the shawl. Needles - US 2 1/2 (3,0mm) or any other size according with the yarn you use and the degree of lacy effect you want to obtain. Gauge is not crucial and depends on the yarn and needles you choose to knit with. The shawl is easy to knit if you know some basic lace stitches – increasing, decreasing and yarn overs. It is also fun to knit, not too complicated and yet not boring either. The pattern is both charted and written. Po przerobieniu paru rzędów wzór staje się prosty i bardzo intuicyjny, można go robić z pamięci. Wielkość szala zależy od ilości powtórzeń wzoru głównego, zarówno na szerokość, jak i na długość. Szal najlepiej wygląda zrobiony ze średniej grubości włóczki, skarpetkowej (100g = 400m) lub nieco grubszej, choć można go wydziergać nawet z lace, będzie bardziej zwiewny, ale też ciekawy! Włóczka – od Lace do Sport, czyli 800 – 300m na 100g. Biały szal jest zrobiony z YarnArt Cotton Soft (55% bawełna, 45% PAC, 600m/100g, poszedł prawie cały motek), ta włóczka średnio się nadaje i noszę ten biały udzierg jako szalik, bo zupełnie nie trzyma formy. Popielata Darmuta jest zrobiona z Silk Babyalpaca Dropsa - 70% alpaka, 30% jedwab, 167m/50g, zużyłam 4 motki przy 99 nabranych oczkach, po zblokowaniu szal ma wymiary 180 cm x 43 cm i świetnie się nosi. Zużycie włóczki zależy oczywiście od wielkości szala. Druty – w zależności od grubości włóczki i od gęstości ażuru, jaki się chce uzyskać. Ja osobiście robię próbkę ażuru i blokuję ją, wtedy jestem w stanie najlepiej ocenić, czy druty dobrze dobrane, i przy okazji oszacować ilość oczek potrzebnych na wymaganą szerokość.
