From the archives: SS Norway in Southampton, UK on 30th August 1997. She is accompanied the Red sea tugs (fore) Hamtun of Red Funnel Towage (1985: IMO 8414154, later to be renamed Multratug in 2006) and (aft) Lyndhurst of Howard Smith Towage (1996: IMO 9129495, later to be named Svitzer Lyndhurst in 2007). At 1,035ft long, Norway was the longest passenger ship in the world when she was built as SS France in 1962 (66,343grt - 2,045pax) and she remained so throughout her careers, both as an Atlantic liner until 1974 and then from 1980 as the cruise ship SS Norway (76,049grt - 2,565pax) for Norwegian Caribbean Cruises until 2003. She is seen here, as she was after the substantial expansion of her upper decks and the addition of 135 new suites. Note also the large "landing-craft" tenders added to her foredeck in 1980. She was finally scrapped in 2006.
