The American Southwest was beach property some 560 million years ago. I am not quite sure who’s property it was, but back than organic deposits in the rather wet lands were metamorphosed to coal over these million of years. Luckily it is a low quality coal, otherwise this charming canyon would be now a big mining pit. Native Americans own this land nowadays. The rim belongs to the Navajo and the bottom belongs to the Hopi. To stay at the rim you might get a permit in Cameron. The bottom is a no go. The Hopi do not give permits for this area which makes the Blue Canyon inaccessible Interested in a photo tour through the American Southwest, Brazil, Bolivia, Namibia or Tuscany?
