How can I be paid as a family caregiver? To become a paid caregiver for your family member, Arizona offers two programs: 1. Services for Veterans We suggest you call BeConnected service at 866-429-8387. They help veterans and their families find the resources they need. You can also contact the VA Caregiver Support Line (855) 260-3274 to ask about eligibility. 2. Services for All Families Arizona has the Arizona Long Term Care Services (ALTCS), which is a program through AHCCCS, which is the Medicaid Program in Arizona. This is how ALTCS works: First, your family member will need to be enrolled in Arizona Long Term Care Services (ALTCS). Only if accepted for services, you would then request to be the paid family caregiver. See and scroll down to see the ALTCS documents regarding how to apply. You can call 888-621-6880, to ask about the application. Keep in mind, your family member must be enrolled in ALTCS, and only then would you request to become the family caregiver. Once you are the designated family caregiver for the ALTCS program, you would then need to connect with a homecare agency contracted with ALTCS. They will train you and pay you, almost as if you were an employee. There is about a day of training, including CPR/First Aid and the Fundamentals of Caregiving training. See for more details. Please note: If the person needing care has an intellectual or developmental disability, we encourage you to contact the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) at 844-770-9500. If your loved one is eligible for DDD, they will help connect you with ALTCS.
