To the north of Jølstravatnet there is a series of adjoining mountains called Huus-fjella. In the winter months these change in both name and character. Enveloped in snow, they resemble a recumbent female nude: reading from left to right, we see her bent knees, her abdomen, breasts and head. In this particular painting it is also possible to see her shoulder and arm, but her head is hidden by a superimposed mountain. In local parlance these mountains are called ‘the Ice Queen’.
