Roman marble portrait of the empress Livia, wife of Augustus. Considered a provincial work from Asia Minor (note location of purchase, below). The pronounced, tight "nodus" above the forehead seen on many images of Livia is rendered more loosely in this rendition. H: 42 cm. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, inv. 748. Purchased in Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1890. Dated by the museum to the early first century CE.
