One of my expeditions to the Skagit Valley finally paid off. The area is known as one of the best birding spots in western Washington, particularly for snow geese, swans and raptors, but I strike out every time I head up there. Today was different. I got some good intel on a place to photograph short-eared owls, and whaddya know... It remained overcast and the owls weren't particularly active, but I was more than satisfied considering I've never even seen this species before. I'm hoping to head back up in a couple days for another attempt. Follow me on Facebook! See more photos at www.maxwaugh.com.
