Liebe Leute, bei einem Chorus für so viel Geld (derzeit 233 Euro) dürfte man wohl auf einen Mix- Regler hoffen. Ich finde da aber keinen. Statt dessen wird man mit dem Dauereffekt zwangsbeglückt, so daß je nach "Speed" ein Wabern auf dem Nutzsignal liegt. Daher halte ich den Emperor für weniger geeignet in der Funktion "im Hintergrund", sondern hier will der Effekt gehört sein. Warum mag ich ihn? Weil er schön klingt. Sehr schön. Das Originalsignal erscheint fast gestärkt am Output, kommt frisch und durchsetzungsfähig, nur eben umhüllt von regelbarer Verstimmung. Dezent eingesetzt füttert das Kästchen den Sound auf, dieser wird nicht breiter, denn das Kurzdelay ist hier knapp gehalten, sondern seidig und schmeichelnd. Die Wellenform bestimmt das Geschehen: Mit Sinus klar, etwas im Hintergrund, mit Sägezahn steht der Chorus- Effekt weit vorn. Der Tap Taster erlaubt freihändig zu wechseln von klar auf dicht - wie ein Booster Knopf am Verzerrer. Gute Verarbeitung des recht wuchtigen Gerätes. Farbe und Tiermotiv Geschmackssache. Die drei Hauptbuchsen vorbildlich an der Kopfseite. Mit Wellenform, Lautstärke und Tonblende gut einstellbar, nur eben den Mix- Regler haben sie vergessen, das kostet tatsächlich ein Sternchen in der Gesamtbewertung. Fazit: Sehr schön, sehr teuer. Eigentlich mag Chorus als Effekt nicht so sehr, weil das schnell kitschig klingen kann. Ich habe mir den Emperor wegen des Vibrato-Effekt gekauft, um zu schauen, ob ich damit das Walrus Audio Julia V2 ersetzen könnte, denn die Julia rauscht ziemlich stark. Die Verarbeitung ist absolut perfekt, wie man es von JHS gewohnt ist. Ich empfinde es immer als Praktisch, wenn die IN-/OUT-Buchsen oben angeordnet sind (Dieser Vorteil ist hier nur bedingt vorhanden, denn immerhin ist seitlich ja noch der TAP-/EXP-Anschluss). Wie immer bei Pedalen von JHS gibt es hier einige zusätzliche Features, die entweder selten sind oder die es in dieser Kombination noch nicht gibt: -> Am weitesten verbreitet sein dürfte noch die Tap-Funktion sein, welche mittels eines zweiten Tasters im Gerät eingegeben wird. Das ist bei der Größe des Pedals schon echt cool, denn einen internen Tap-Taster gibt es ansonsten nur bei größeren Gehäusen. Andererseits muss man sehr treffsicher sein, grade wenn die Pedale eng beieinander stehen. -> externes Tap-Tempo ist ebenfalls möglich, wofür einem der seitliche Anschluss zur Verfügung steht. Dies kann praktisch sein, wenn man mehrere Geräte (bspw. Delays) mit einem externen Tap-Taster verbinden möchte, um eine einheitliche Zeit einzutappen. -> Weiterhin lässt sich an selbigem Anschluss ein Expression-Pedal anschließen. Hierzu muss auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der kleine Schalter umgestellt werden. -> eine sehr gute Idee ist im Speed-Regler versteckt: Dieser regelt die Geschwindigkeit der Tonhöhenverschiebung nicht linear ansteigend, sondern steigt im letzten Viertel (ab ca. 2 Uhr, wo es schon sehr schnell eingestellt ist) exponentional an. Dadurch erreicht das Pedal für mein Empfinden wesentlich höhere Geschwindigkeiten als andere und wird dabei derart schnell, dass man eine feinere Justierung ohnehin nicht bräuchte. -> Es stehen dem Bediener drei verschiedene Wellenformen zur Verfügung: Sinus, Rechteck und Dreieck. Während Rechteck für viele wohl bloß eine neckische Spielerei sein wird, kann man mit den anderen beiden Wellenformen gut arbeiten. Dabei gibt es für mich nur einen Kritikpunkt: Die Tonhöhe fällt bei beiden Wellenformen schneller ab, als sie wieder ansteigt, wodurch das Vibrato anfängt zu "pumpen", anstatt schön gleichmäßig anzusteigen und abzufallen. Das finde ich sehr schade. -> Im Inneren kann man zwischen buffered und true Bypass umschalten. Dazu muss man zwar das Gerät erst aufschrauben, aber normalerweise ändert man das ja nicht ständig. Im Großen und Ganzen ein sehr gutes Pedal, welches einem mehr bietet, als Andere in dieser Größe. Für mich war es letztlich dann doch nix, weil, wie zuvor schon erwähnt, die Tonhöhe schneller fällt, als sie wieder ansteigt. Dafür ist aber der Chorus wirklich ausgezeichnet und gefällt mir so gut, dass ich ihn nur wärmstens empfehlen kann! Ich benutze meine Effektgeräte eigentlich weniger professionell, als viel mehr zum herumspielen und um Sounds auszutüfteln. Dafür eignet sich der Emperor meiner Meinung nach prima. Mit dem mittleren Kippschalter lassen sich drei verschiedene Wellenformen wählen, welche mit dem Depth-Rad in ihrer Intensität verstellt werden. Der Equalizer Regler schneidet die tiefen Frequenzen ab und betont die Höhen, bzw. umgekehrt und bietet somit noch mehr Klangvariation. Mit dem zweiten Kippschalter wählt man zwischen Vibrato oder Chorus. Leider lassen sich diese zwei Effekte nicht miteinenander mischen, wie beim Diamond Vibrato, dafür ist es aber auch 100Euro günstiger. Ein nennenswertes Rauschen, oder andere Störgeräusche kann ich nicht feststellen. Alles in allem bin ich sehr zufrieden und kann das Pedal jedem nur ans Herz legen. Von den Smiths über Sugar Candy Mountain bis zu Mac DeMarco lassen sich viele Styles abdecken und sollte auf keinem Psych-Dream-Post-Pop Board fehlen. Ich hatte 2 Emperor von 2 verschiedenen Shops. Beide hatten ein extremes Störgeräusch, unabhänig der Stromversorgung. Im Hintergund ist immer eine Art "Swrill und Swush" zu hören. Das Pedal klaut dem Sound zudem ziemlich viel an Brillianz auch bei EQ völlig CW.
