Acer negundo is from North America, largely found east or the Rockies with populations also found in California, Mexico and Guatelmala. Great for supporting native biodiversity! These are excellent vigorous deciduous trees. Ideal as an individual specimen tree, pruned hedging or grown as a bonsai. They do well in moist sites in full sun/semi-shade, but are quite tolerant of other soil types, sites and moisture. Acer griseum is small in size, growing 6 - 9m high and 5 - 6m across. It produces an attractive peeling, papery chestnut-brown bark, a great conversation piece and great to touch. The light green leaves are arranged in 3 leaflets, downy and whitish beneathThese turn a brilliant red and orange colour in autumn, and is a true sight to behold! The fairly small pendant bright yellow - green flowers emerge with the foliage in spring and are androdioecious, having male flowers on some plants, bisexual ones on others. Acer negundo is medium in size, growing to around 10 to 25m high and 8m or so across. It has pinnate light green leaves on green shoots often with a whitish to pink or violet waxy coating when young, leaves turn a nice yellow colour in autumn. The small flowers occur in spring on drooping racemes and are dioecious with male and female flowers occuring on separate plants. So you will need multiple plants for them to reproduce. The following fruits become a lovely red colour whilst maturing, dropping in autumn through winter. The tree has a wide variety of uses among Native American peoples and supports a wide range of other species in its native range.
