It is made with quality 100% cotton fabrics in shades of light, medium, and dark greens along with bits of beige, browns, blues and creams. There are many different florals and batiks used in the piecing. You receive the quilt top already pieced together as shown. Just supply your own backing, batting, quilting, and binding along with your own finishing touches. The border fabric is a green speckle print and 4.5" wide. Zoom in on the photos for a close-up of the border. This would make a beautiful wall quilt, lap, or throw quilt for your home. A handmade quilt brings a sense of warmth and comfort to a room whether you use it to stay warm or to add a pop of color. This would look great over the back of a couch or on the foot of a bed. You can also use it as a coverlet for a bed. This would make a great handmade gift your yourself or a loved one.
Butterfly quilts represent a simpler time and are often done in 30s fabrics. However, you can bring these happy fluttery creatures up-to date, by using more contemporary fabrics. If you love the 30s fabrics, as I do, you can stick with the tried and true, as show here or give an updated version a try, as shown on the back of this pattern. Either version is sure to elicit happy feelings from anyone who sees or receives your quilt. Perfect for a baby quilt or a lap quilt. You could also add more blocks and make it bed-size. Quilt measures 42 1/2" x 42 1/2". Remember, when printing out a PDF pattern, be sure the option "fit to page" is not selected, or your pattern may not print to the exact size it was intended.

This is my 3rd quilt made with Marmalade by Moda. Designed by Bonnie and Camille, Marmalade has to be my all time favorite fabric collection; it's just so happy! The pattern is Falling Charms (video tutorial here). It is easy enough to chain piece - but assembly on which way to lay the blocks can be a little tricky. Luckily there is a digital pattern here. This quilt has been donated to my daughter's high school for their Silent Auction fundraiser. As Marmalade came out in Oct. 2012, I was very lucky to find some of the yellow/grey pinwheels for the binding to give it a modern look. White Kona helps break up all the saturated color of the yellow back. But when minky is called"Buttercup" and Aurifil has a variegated 50wt. thread called "Lemon Ice" - who can resist using materials with names like that? It's been almost six months since I upgraded to a Janome Skyline S5 - and of course the decorative wavy stitch is my favorite. Pressing seams open and stitching on a seam or in a grid pattern keeps things simple. For minky lap quilts it works out nicely to stay within 60" wide and maximum 76" long with batting in the middle. These dimensions keep the quilt from being too heavy, 2 1/4 yards of minky is the back yardage - and it machine washes and dries in a timely manner. Purchase your copy of the Close-Knit Quilt Pattern here! The third pattern in our series is here y'all! I know you're not supposed to pick favorites, but this one honestly takes the cake for me. I have had a lot of fun making different versions of this one and I connect a lot to the inspiration behind this one. Let's dig in! Another aspect of Scandinavian homes is their creation of a cozy atmosphere. Their winters can be long and very harsh so a cozy spot to gather with family and friends inside is important. So, important that the Danish have actually given this concept a name - Hygge. Purchase your copy of the Close-Knit Quilt Pattern here! Scandinavian homes are designed around the center, gathering place of the home. The Close-Knit Quilt Pattern is a nod to this concept. Each block works its way towards a small center block that represents the heart of the home. We spend a lot of our time as a family snuggled up on the living room sectional watching movies when the weather is bad. I kind of love these days! This quilt kit above is available in my shop! Grab your quilt kit here! This concept is also a modern take on the Log Cabin Quilt. Log Cabin Quilts are composed of Log Cabin Blocks. Throughout history you can see these arranged in tons of different ways to create really vibrant quilt patterns. The Log Cabin Block is said to have been created around 1863. Because the pieces are fairly small this also allowed people to use scraps of old fabric they had laying around their homes. That sounds like the practicality of Scandinavian design to me! Reduce, reuse, recycle right?! Purchase your copy of the Close-Knit Quilt Pattern here! I hope you will enjoy making this pattern as much as I did. It really does create some unique designs depending on your fabric choices.
