If you find yourself struggling with mental and emotional clutter, these tips will help you rid yourself of the chaos and drama.

This is a game that your whole class or small group intervention groups can play to help review important division concepts including representing and solving word problems as well as estimating solutions. TEKS covered are: 4.4E, 4.4F, 4.4G, 4.4H, and 4.5A. There are 12 questions with 8 multiple choice and 12 open ended. There are task cards included that can be used in other ways such as playing a board game, Scoot, or even for small-group intervention. To play Showdown and Shoot: 1.) The referee (AKA teacher) will flash a question on the board. (If you do not have access to a projector, you can just call out the question number they need to answer.) 2.) Teams will work together to answer the question on the task card that matches the question on the board, with each player taking turns being the “Manager” on each question. Just like on a basketball team, the Manager will do the writing. (I encourage them to show any strategies they have learned, and you could give them an extra point for this.) The manager should write the letter of the correct answer on the back of the task card really big. Once a team has the answer, they will pretend to shoot a basketball in the air to show they are ready. During the next round, you could have them pretend to dribble a ball when they are ready. The next round, you could have them pretend to pass a ball. This is just for fun and to help you know when each team is ready. You could also set a timer for each question if you would like to. 3.) After all the teams have their answer, the referee will say : “SHOWDOWN!” Each team will hold up their answer for the referee to check. The teams that had the correct answer, all get 1 point. There is a scoreboard that you can laminate to keep score on, or you can just keep score on the chalkboard. (Do they even make chalkboards anymore?) As a class, work the problem out on the board, reviewing strategies. 4.) The teams with the correct answer also get the chance to “SHOOT.” To shoot, one player will crumble the task card up like a ball and attempt to shoot the ball of paper into the trash can. If they make it, they earn another point for their team. If they miss, they do not get the extra point. It is recommended that you put a piece of tape on the floor to mark where the students stand to shoot their ball. 5.) Repeat this process for all the questions. At the end, the team with the most points, wins!
