Walmart Paint Makeover | The supplies I used are listed here: https://arayofsunlight.com/walmart-chalk-paint-review/ | By A Ray of Sunlight - Painted Furniture & DIY | I went to Walmart and picked up five budget friendly supplies to paint this really orange sofa table. I got some Waverly Chalk Paint, a best two-inch paint brush, Gator 220 grit, and 320 grit sandpaper, clear shellac, and some Minwax polyacrylic. My total ended up being right around $40. Then I came home and dove right in. I removed the hardware and cleaned it up with some hot water and dawn dish soap. Then I scuff sanded it with 220 grit sandpaper to scuff the surface up just a little bit and give the paint something to hold onto. After I cleaned off the dust, I took the table outside and sprayed on two coats of clear shellac. I know why in the world did I scuff sand it if I was just going to put a shiny top coat on it again. It's weird but clear shellac actually helps paint stick better. It also helps prevent stains from coming through paint and making the paint job look terrible. The next day I moved it back inside and paint it on this Waverly Chalk Paint in the color moss. Isn't it so pretty? I did add some water to the paint to help level it out better so then it wouldn't have brush marks in it. Water helps the paint dry slower so it has a better chance of spreading out before it dries. When I got to the drawer, I removed it and painted it on its own. Since I didn't get any tape for this project, I was really careful to only get paint on the drawer front and not on any other part of the drawer. This table took two coats of paint to get full coverage. And the paint leveled out so good. I'm not going to lie though. I was pretty impressed with such cheap paint. Since it's chalk paint, I had to top coat it though. I sprayed this Minwax polyacrylic all over the table following the instructions on the can. So I let it dry for about 45 minutes between coats and I sanded between coats with three 20 grit sandpaper to make it feel really nice and smooth. The sanding also kind of distress the paint too. And here's what the table looks like now. This was the first time that I used most of these products and I think it went really really well. The chalk paint worked just as well as any other chalk paint that I've used and the spray on top coat looks really really good. Have you used Waverly Chalk Paint before? That's it for me today. I will catch you next week for another three-minute makeover.
