Filthy, horrible old steam engines (and a lot more) is probably what the owner of the sparkling white Ford said as his journey along the A5 near Atherstone was rudely interrupted by the passage of a light steam loco belching smoke. The loco was William Francis a rare Beyer-Peacock Garrett 0-4-4-0 (6841/1937) working from the main site of Baddesley Colliery to the exchange sidings with the West Coast line. Today the Garrett survives as part of the National Collection, the Ford is probably landfill. Possibly Autumn 1965, Peter Shosmith visited then.
