This earthenware teapot was made by Wood & Sons, Ltd. at the Trent and New Wharf potteries in Burslem, c.1920s-32. The ”Cozy” non-drip teapot was designed and patented worldwide by Edmund William Abram in 1921. The license to make them was initially given to a number of potteries but Wood & Sons produced the majority. Abram’s company went into liquidation in the mid-1920s and Wood & Sons took over the patent registration. They continued to produce them until 1932. It is in the “Mayfair”, pat. no. 1125, with a blue transfer of a bird sitting on a flowering tree branch and finished with hand painted colors. It is marked with a special “Wood Wares” urn mark that included details of the worldwide Abram patent printed in the backstamp. It's 7" tall, 5" in diameter and 6" front to handle.
