Car playmats are the perfect present for any little guy. They can be made almost entirely from scraps of whatever you have. I used a mixture of felt and fabric. Felt can simply be cut out and sew straight on...yay for that. Fabric does need to be "appliqued" on. That process can be as simple or as hard as you have time/motivation for. I used the freezer paper method. Then I also just used a simple stitch around the edges. If you have the mad skills and the time you can do something like THIS ah-mazing creation over at Homemade by Jill. Your car mat can be as big or as small as you want. You can personalize buildings or favorite spots of your child. My process: I brainstormed what I wanted on my mat. I used a regular piece of fabric for the grass and a heavier upholstery fabric for the back. The roads were stenciled on with freezer paper and then painted on with permanent fabric paint. Like I said earlier the details were all done with a mixture of felt and fabric. It was a labor of love and it will take a couple of days, but it will be the highlight of any little man's Christmas. Some of my favorites: farmhouse with apple orchard police station park with swing set gas station with car wash Linking & Sharing at: We Did it Wednesday: Sew Much Ado Creative Share Wednesday: The Trendy Treehouse
