Artwork: "Women on Country" Meaning: This artwork symbolises women coming together to collect bush berries, seeds and wildflowers on Country. Food collected by women such as fruits, seeds and grains for bread making provided a regular diet for Aboriginal families on a daily basis. Women possess a detailed knowledge of our local environment, knowing which plants held food and medicinal properties, how to use them, and where to find them. Women are educators, instilling in their jarjum’s (children) the knowledge of how to locate, gather, prepare food and care for Country. All descriptions have been written by Holly Sanders. This collaboration is a celebration of women: powerful, strong, resourceful and determined. Thousands of generations of women have guided and supported each other on Country since millennia and have birthed and nurtured centuries of people into existence.
