GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) or chronic acid reflux is a long-term condition where acid from the stomach comes up into the esophagus. GERD is the chronic form of acid reflux and heartburn. Most people can manage the discomfort of GERD with lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medications. But some people with GERD may need stronger medications or surgery to ease symptoms.
