Possibly a 'Class III Pictish Symbol Stone', however this is still debated. It is possible that this cross was created in the 10th - 11th centuries, and so after the Picts had become amalgamated with the Kingdom of the Scots. The Cross is located in Panmure Estate, between Carnoustie and Monikie, and stands on a small mound in the middle of a tree lined dirt road. The cross is about six feet high, and is the only example of a stone cross in Scotland that depicts the crucifixion of Christ on one side while showing the glory of Christ on the opposite. The area around the cross was opened up and excavated in 1620, and was found to contain a skeleton, bowl-shaped food vessel, and a broad, oval gold ring. These grave goods were then moved to Brechin Castle but have long since gone missing.
