And like most Disney fans, I am all kinds of geeked out about the new movies they are bringing to us this year. I took my girls to the theater to see Disney's live-action adventure Dumbo earlier this year and it quickly became my favorite film of 2019 so far. I've been patiently counting down the days that I could add it to my own collection, and if you've been doing the same, I have good news! Dumbo is flying to store shelves today, June 25, 2019, so now you can grab a copy for your collection as well! About the film: In "Dumbo," struggling circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive but sinister entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, spectacular, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. The film is directed by Tim Burton, and I admit that while I am a fan of his films, I did wonder if this live-action film was going to mimic some of his darker work. However, this live-action Dumbo is quite tame and not in the least bit dark, scary or morbid, and the separation of Dumbo from his mother was tastefully done without harsh cruelty shown towards the elephants, so it is definitely suitable for viewers young and old alike. There's only one character, V.A. Vandevere, who you love to hate, but you'll find yourself rooting for the rest of the characters from start to end. Looking forward to seeing Dumbo for yourself? A fun way to get the family excited about its release today is to host a Backyard Circus Celebration. You just need a few things to make your backyard circus party a real celebration. What we did was set up a little popup circus tent and filled it with blankets and a few snacks. Be sure to add some fun activities in too by tossing some carnival games into the mix. Horseshoes, bean bag toss, duck pond, and ring toss are all hits with my family. I found a 4-In-1 set at the local party supply store for under $30 that includes everything you need to put together 4 popular carnival games. Teach your guests how to juggle. You can grab this printable "Learn to Juggle" step-by-step guide HERE. Circus food is also important, but keeping it simple is key for everyone to have a great time. Grab a few boxes of frozen pretzels and corn dogs for a quick no fuss meal, then fill up some containers with carnival staples like peanuts, popcorn, animal cookies, bubble gum, cotton candy, suckers, etc., that's easy for little hands to grab and go (or grab and sit. Let's make sure we take precautions to avoid choking). Once all the kids have worn themselves down with all the fun, it's time to settle in for a viewing of Dumbo. Dumbo was just released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital formats, so be sure to fly over to your nearest retailer to get your hands on a copy today! What's your favorite circus snack?
