En route from Edinburgh to Inverness for the second leg of our trip, we made a stop at Stirling Castle, a royal palace and the site of the coronation of several Scottish kings and queens including Mary, Queen of Scots. Stirling is an impressive castle, sitting atop a steep-sided hill overlooking the surrounding terrain. This view of the castle is from the gatehouse looking up towards the castle forework, which serves as the entrance to the central portion of the castle.
