Black-capped chickadees (Poecile atricapillus) frequent fruit trees, likely because an abundance of food items can be found among the flowers and fruits. Plus, fruit tree canopies tend to be dense, providing good cover for the tiny birds. The blossoms arrived early this year in Vancouver, BC, likely encouraged by a relatively warm January and February (to date), this after a solid freeze in December. The region is resplendent with blooms, with ever more opening each day.
