Oil on canvas mounted to Masonite Signed in red, u.r. $8250.00 + framing This artwork is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. “Bruce Sargeant is a mythic figure in the modern art movement. He embodies a world that is in many ways lost to us; he exudes a sensibility that fills every corner of his canvas; the heaviness of his figures hides an elusive levity. . . In the stock-still gaze of his athletes, in the subdued intensity of his still lifes, in the reflective sheen on his three-dimensional work, it is clear that he goes beyond reality. In his attempt to prove the simplicity of imitative simulacra, he achieves a sort of non-realism. If you look closely in the eyes of his subjects, they seem beyond the world of the viewer. They simply cannot exist—nor can the artist who created them. Sargeant is at the height of his powers when he achieves this superficiality—in the pure sense of what lies on surfaces—an analogue for the sublime.” – Gary L. Haller, December 2004 Mark Beard, born in 1956 in Salt Lake City, now lives in New York City. His works are in museum collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; the Museum of Modern Art, New York City; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City; the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; and the Harvard, Yale, and Princeton University Art Museums; among many others.

This product has two activities that will help your ESL students learn vocabulary for physical appearances while practicing their speaking, listening and reading skills. The vocabulary used in both activities is limited to facial features only. (See below for a list of included vocabulary.) • Activity One: 24 Yes/No Short Answer Task Cards Students will work with a partner. Each student will ask his/her partner about the person on the task card. The partner will answer with a complete sentence. When they are done, they can exchange both cards for another pair. For example: Task Card 3A will read: “Does Angela have black hair?” Task Card 3B will answer: “No, she doesn’t.” Task Card 3A will read: "Are her eyes blue?" Task Card 3B will answer: "Yes, they are." • Activity Two: Matching Students will match the description with the correct picture. Depending on time and/or student ability, you can use less cards. There are 24 pictures and 24 descriptions. You could also have students choose a card at random and describe it to a partner for speaking practice. Another variation is for the teacher to pass out the pictures to students. The teacher then reads a description and the student who possesses that card will raise his/her hand. Vocabulary included: short/long/medium-length/shoulder-length hair, brown/gray/black/blond/red hair, curly/straight/wavy hair, mustache/beard/goatee, blue/brown/green eyes, ponytail/braid/bun, glasses, hat, braces, freckles, bangs, bald, pierced ears, old/young Please note: This product will work best if you have a color printer. Eye color and hair color are included in the activities. ***************************************************************** Looking for more ESL Activities?
