Mid-2nd Century AD. From Nemi (Rome). Luna marble. The head was made separately for insertion onto a statue, probably representing the god while seated. The work is a copy or reworking of a Greek original of the late Hellenistic period, inspired by a statue by the Greek sculptor Lysippos of Sicyon, the Herakles Epitrapezios (ca. 330 BC).
