Jimmy Lee Sudduth (1910-2007) is one of the best known self-taught artists from the South. His beloved dog was named Toto and was the subject of a number of paintings. The painting is a frontal view and is peculiar in how the legs are splayed. Sudduth's art is included in the Smithsonian Institution, New Orleans Museum of Art, Corcoran, Birmingham Museum of Art, High Museum and others.
