The German daga has a trap for the enemy blade in the form of two diverging grips connected to the main blade by a hinge, which are folded by springs into a combat position. The grips were released using a button in the handle. If the enemy’s sword hit the trident thus obtained, it was held with the other hand for the duration of the counterattack, and the blade of low quality could even break.
