In a note to the reader at the back of this delightful children’s book, the authors state their “aim is to spark imagination, creativity, and humor…” This goal was met with great success. The Pajama Brothers woke up to a big day – they are adopting a new dog. After choosing a pair of appropriate pajamas, they helped their parents with the online application and looked at all the dogs ready to be adopted. The four of them went to the shelter and welcomed their chosen dog. Authors Ruby and Paxton Kindheart have crafted a wonderful children’s book titled Pajama Brothers: The New Dog. This book will fascinate children over and over again. There are many important lessons for parents to highlight during discussion times. For example, the necessity of “trying out” the new dog to make sure he likes their home; preparing the home; and the dog feeling scared at first. While the best time to introduce this book to children would be prior to having a pet, it would be helpful afterward too as parents can relate present circumstances to these lessons. The illustrations by Charity Russell will certainly stimulate a child’s imagination, as well as entertain the parents. Another charming addition to the book is the Bedtime Poem, naming ways to make the world a better place. The Pajama Brothers is a series written by Ruby and Paxton Kindheart. If this book, The New Dog, is the first one parents (or grandparents) purchase, every child will want the others!
